Trauma informed therapy

Helping you navigate overwhelming emotions so that you can reconnect with what you love most.

You have reached a point where you know something has to change for you. Your life isn’t what you thought it was going to be. You’ve had challenges in your past that you have fought your way through but it has taken a toll. Sometimes you wonder if the effort you are putting into life is worth what you are getting out of it. With values based, trauma informed therapy I can help you understand the impact of your past on your current situation, and support you to move towards the life you want to be living.

I’m a mental health social worker who specialises in working with people who have experienced trauma. Drawing on a range of cognitive and somatic focused therapies I’ll help you untangle the thoughts, feelings and body reactions so that you can focus on doing on the things that bring you joy.

My Approach

Trauma is the response we have to an event that is so overwhelming or unrelenting that we feel unable to cope. This could be, a one off violent event, intense stress within a relationship, or critical childhood needs that were not met. Using evidence based trauma informed therapy I start by getting to know your unique story and needs. We will work to establish a sense of safety and move at a pace that you set; there is no pushing you in the deep end to make you swim. I will help you understand why your nervous system behaves the way its does and how your emotions and behaviours have kept you safe. With this understanding and compassion in place, I can support you to take action in your life that reconnects you with who you want be.

How it works

- Step One -

Fill out the contact form with as much information as you feel comfortable sharing. This will help me know if we are likely to be a good fit.

- Step Two -

I will contact you back and set up an initial appointment or provide alternative options if what you need is not what I can provide.

- Step Three -

At your first session, we will spend time exploring what you would like to get out of therapy and start work on a plan to move forward.

Most people attend sessions on a fortnightly basis but in some cases weekly appointments early on can be helpful. How often you attend depends on what your goals are, what frequency suits you and what else is going on in your life.
